PSP5565 FAIRY SWORDFISH FLEET AIR ARM ROYAL NAVY
The first British Fairy Swordfish was flown on February 22, 1934. The land versions of the Swordfish were 2-3 seat carrier-based torpedo-bombers with reconnaissance capabilities. These planes were also retrofitted with floats for sea landings. A top speed of 139 mph was achieved with one Bristol Pegasus radial piston-engine. The twin-wing Swordfish had a wingspan of 45 1/2 feet and carried various machine guns, torpedoes and bombs. The last of these planes was disabled on May 21, 1945.
