SGE72-001-02 RAF TORNADO F3 ZG757 43RD FIGHTER SQN RAF LEUCHARS
The model is one of a limited production run 1/72 scale
RAF Leuchars is currently home to a squadron of Tornado F3 No.43 Squadron. The
squadron operate on Quick Reaction Alert which was set up primarily to combat threats
from Russian attacks during the Cold War.
During much of the 1960s the Squadron operated from Cyprus and was disbanded in 1967.
43 Squadron reformed at Leuchars in 1969 with the McDonnell Douglas Phantom which it
flew until its replacement by the Tornado F3 in 1990.
Currently, the Squadron still operates the Tornado F3 and will do until the Eurofighter
Typhoon replaces the F3 as the UKs operational fighter aircraft.
The squadron flagship, ZG757, has a gloss black spine and tail and 90th anniversary
emblem on the tail.
