Essex Police have a long tradition of using Fords, however, nearly all Police forces in the UK used, and adored, the MkII Granada. The model's new 'Cologne' 2.8-litre V6 was smooth, refined, powerful and surprisingly economical, while its clever but understated aerodynamics ensured it was blessed with fantastic high-speed stability. This was achieved by designing the front grille's slats to become aerodynamically 'solid' at high speeds, while the matched 'beard' type front spoiler reduced front and rear lift by 38%.
Its unmatched combination of comfort, nimble handling, metronomic reliability and huge carrying capacity meant it became the default motorway patrol car of its era.
