Designed for the US Air Force as an air-superiority fighter with superior acceleration, range and maneuverability, the F-15 first flew on July 27th, 1972. This aircraft has highly advanced weaponry and avionics design, including low wing loading and a high engine thrust-to-weight ratio, features that account for its maneuverability and talent for performing tight, high speed turns. The F-15's original design was so successful that more than a decade later it was re-envisioned as the F-15E Strike Eagle, an all-weather strike fighter. As one of the most successful military aircraft in aviation history, the F-15 is likely to remain in service until 2025.
